Guignol is a long-running circus/Balkan/klezmer/jazz project featuring Peter Hess (Balkan Beat Box, advice World/Inferno) on clarinet, Franz Nicolay on accordion, George Rush on tuba, and John Bollinger on drums. Part of the NYC gypsy-punk explosion that included bands like Gogol Bordello and Luminescent Orchestrii, Guignol has produced two full-length albums, a split EP with Nanuchka (featuring Jack Terricloth of World/Inferno), and a live album. Their most recent, “Guignol & Mischief Brew Fight Dirty,” is a collaboration with Philadelphia’s Erik Petersen (aka Mischief Brew); which features Guignol backing Erik on six of his songs, Erik joining Guignol on guitar on six of theirs; a Django Reinhardt cover, and an Iron Maiden cover.

“Brooklyn’s Guignol is the best bet for Barbez’s crew of hard-working, hard-playing world-music mutants to crash the art-punk party at Death By Audio…it’s a crew that truly understands punk rock energy and Eastern Bloc flutter. The speed and energy of your favorite hardcore band next to annihilating klezmercore.” – Village Voice

“Guignol serves up a combination of punk, jazz, folk, tango, klezmer, cheap red wine, woolly pinstriped suits, newsboy caps and one waxed moustache.” – Times of London
