I’ve made music in a variety of situations over the years, as a performer, composer, arranger, and producer. You can see a full discography here.
If I”m completely new to you, and you want my recommendation, start with these albums: Franz Nicolay “Luck And Courage,” The Hold Steady “Boys And Girls In America,” World/Inferno Friendship Society “Red-Eyed Soul,” Guignol & Mischief Brew “Fight Dirty,” and Anti-Social Music “Sings The Great American Songbook.”
THE PAST:
From roughly 2000-07, I was a member of the legendary anarchist punk orchestra World/Inferno Friendship Society (including the Vox Inferne acapella project!). From 2005-09, I was a member of “world’s best bar band” The Hold Steady.
THE PRESENT:
- Franz Nicolay (solo)
- Anti-Social Music (experimental chamber music)
- Guignol (gypsy/Balkan/instrumental)
- Miscellaneous (everything else)
THE FUTURE:
As of January 2012, I’m in the middle of recording my third solo album, “Do The Struggle,” with producer oktopus. In April, Anti-Social Music will (at long last!) release its collaborations with dälek and His Name Is Alive on a deluxe, limited-edition 180-gram vinyl with packaging that folds out into a sculpture by our longtime in-house artist scrapworm. From May to August, I’ll be on worldwide tour from Germany to China.
